Our Ethos

Put simply, our ethos is to be the very best that we can be.

To achieve this aim, we maintain a small scale, where individual attention is fundamental. We place a firm emphasis on the physical and mental health and welfare of our dogs. They have plenty of space to exercise in beautiful countryside, are fed naturally where possible and enjoy the stimulation of living in a social group and interracting with people in a normal, domestic environment.

Our breeding programme is co-operative, both within the UK and abroad, allowing the regular introduction of new bloodlines to best promote the genetic health of the puppies we breed. We do not inbreed and where a little line-breeding is used to promote good type in our hounds, we keep our inbreeding coefficient below the breed average wherever possible and preferably below that recommended as desirable by scientific research.

Puppies are born and reared in our home where they can be properly socialised and encounter all the stimuli provided by a normal domestic environment. This gets them off to a great start and ensures a smooth transition into their new homes.

Our commitment does not end when our puppies leave our home. We are in it for the long haul and will provide whatever support we can to those who make a place for a Holmchappell puppy in their families, for life.

I have been breeding Grands Bassets Griffons Vendeens for twenty years and have achieved a great deal in that time. However, I am dedicated to constant improvement. By contrast, my Miniature Schnauzers are a relatively new venture. I do not show them but this does not mean that my approach is any different. My enthusiasm is for breeding beautiful, healthy, well adjusted dogs of the best possible type and character so that they too, will be the very best that they can be.
